Bangkok Hotels
Bangkok is full of low-rent guest houses and affordable luxury hotels. The internet makes it possible to book a hotel for your family weeks or even months in advance of your family vacation. Most Bangkok Hotels
will guarantee your reservation if you give them your credit card information before arrival. If you are confident your travel plans will not change, pay in advance and you will often receive a larger discount. Visit Hotel in Bangkok at discount prices for more information.
In general, most hotel rates include a buffet breakfast for two persons per room. Up to two children under 12 years of age can share a room with their parents for no charge. Pick a hotel near the river or the Bangkok skytrain system, and you'll have no trouble getting around on your own.
The Bangkok skytrain runs over top of Sukhumvit Road, so most of the hotels in the area are in walking distance to a skytrain station. Sukhumvit Road is actually the longest street in Thailand. It stretches from Ratchaprasong intersection all the way out of town and beyond. Sukhumvit is lined with restaurants, shopping centers, bars and of course hotels.
The Silom area is quite possibly Bangkok's version of Wall Street in New York City. With a skytrain line running through the area, many great restaurants, nearby malls and great hotels, Silom is a fine place for your family to stay while in Bangkok.
Pratunam area is home to the Baiyoke Sky Hotel, Bangkok's tallest building. The Baiyoke can be seen from all over Bangkok and it marks the spot for one of Thailand's favorite activities, shopping. Pratunam is filled with garment factory outlets. So if your family enjoys shopping, find a place to stay in Pratunam. The only drawback is that neither the Bangkok skytrain or Bangkok subway have stops in the area of Pratunam.
The Chao Phraya river is where Bangkok begins. It was established after the previous Siamese capital, Ayuthaya, was taken over by the Burmese in 1767. As Bangkok grows and expands its territory, the river doesn't change. The Chao Phraya is an essential path for ship traffic going to the Gulf of Thailand and then around the world. Travel between points of interest in the downtown area is much faster on Bangkok river taxis than on the crowded streets in a Bangkok metered taxi.
Bangkok now has two airports. The old airport, Don Muang, is now used for domestic air traffic. The new airport, Suvarnabhumi, handles all international air traffic into Bangkok. Some domestic traffic is routed through Suvarnabhumi as well. Before the new airport opened, the number of hotels in that vicinity was limited. Besides the official Airport Hotel, a Novotel, there are a growing number of hotels nearby.
